Personality:
First of all, it's worth noting that he is the second in command of the Axe Crazy Murdering Psychopath Arc Villain group. As such, he obviously is violent, volatile, cruel, sadistic, has very few morals, and thinks dying people are funny, but as a commanding officer he's also a capable leader, astute and is able to quickly assess his people's strengths and weaknesses. He's a professional assassin by trade, and has earned the title of Sword Emperor. He enjoys fighting, so much that he'll actually seek to prolong the battle if he finds the opponent challenging or interesting enough, pretty much lives for murder and mayhem, and hacked off his own dominant left hand when he was fourteen "to become stronger", replacing it with a "better" high-tech prosthetic.

Squalo embodies the Deadly Sin of Pride, with the whole bouquet of traits that come with it: arrogance, narcissism, vanity, superiority complex, rudeness and the almost complete inability to feel shame. He also loves showing off, to the point where he's flubbed a fight due to it, despite having something of a perfectionist streak. Like Xanxus, he has the habit of calling other people "trash" and "scum".

Another central point to his character is his loyalty and dedication to his boss, Xanxus, which is fierce and absolute, despite the fact that he's treated like trash and beaten up on a good day. He is pretty much a knight in that regard -- although he has no qualms about fighting dirty if needed. Rather than titles or positions, it is Xanxus' anger and raw power that he finds so "captivating", and even having that wrath turned on him only means that he gets to see it clearer, from up close. Squalo is the only Varia member who dares to call Xanxus out on his shit and generally talk back to him. This proves that he is not, in fact, as whipped as it might look at first sight, though he does often resign himself to running errands and whatever other mundane orders Xanxus might toss his way.

Despite being intelligent enough to work as a Strategy Captain in the future, he is extremely impatient and impulsive, and seems to find it hard to be still for a longer periods of time (even his facial expressions for the first half of the series look like someone overdosed on coffee or high on cocaine, with a semi-permanent twitch in his cheek to boot). He can latch out with lethal violence at the slightest provocation or none at all (he beats two teens half to death because they got in his way of killing a third).

Finally, it's important to note that his personality is LOUD. He has no inside voice, and sounds like he's yelling even when he's just having a conversation. Basically, he can be "loud" or "LOUDER", and while he seems to be able to lower his voice to a (loud) whisper, he basically never does that. And when he's actually trying to be loud, he can burst ear drums and crack window glass with his voice alone. Let's omit the 'shake buildings' as anime overdramatics, but you get the idea. It's specifically noted that he is the #1 loudest mafioso in the world.

☆INTERSTELLAR

Genre Preferences: Heavy Metal, Punk, (Alternative/Hard) Rock.
Choice Instrument: Lead VOCALS!!, electric guitar, electric violin. Maybe cello, double-check me for drums but I'm willing to consider it if nothing else is available. He's suitable for a frontman/lead; he definitely has a presence, though generally you hear him before you see him. Squalo has a fucking loud voice and is great at screeching (for hours), though he can sing as well. He could even perform without a microphone if need be. He'd also be a good choice for a second/backup vocalist - one that doesn't sing all the time but is responsible for certain parts. Especially screams, in this case.

Rockstar Persona:
Illegitimate son of a semi-famous (fake!Italian) classical music critic and a prostitute, he was raised by his father and musically trained from young age (so yes, he can read sheet music). Squalo never met his mother (she left him on the doorstep as an infant because he was too fucking loud already) and didn't even know about the scandal and her considerably dishonorable background until well into his teens. "Superbia Squalo" is his stagename (which he goes by everywhere, but for curiosity's sake let's say he believes his real name is something like Sigfrido Caseareo), though English-speaking fanbase may refer to him as simply "Shark". His real name is a commercial secret; he's discarded it years ago because he didn't want to accidentally ride on the coattails of his father's somewhat reasonable influence in the music world. Of course, if it ever comes out (most likely due to legal reasons), it could make for an interesting tabloid...

His dad would break instruments (except pianos, obviously) over his head whenever he skipped practice or played a note wrong, contributing to turning him into a raging perfectionist. As a teenager, he discovered rock music, fell in love, and was scraping together his first band in no time. It was his third band that really sort of made it, though, one that featured him as a frontman and some disturbingly graphic lyrics about various forms of violence and crime. It didn't get too big, but this was where the more influental managers finally noticed him and he got his current contract.

Personality-wise, he's pretty much the same as in canon: loud, rude, vain, selfish, arrogant, has a violent streak and a taste for havoc and mayhem. He's the guy who swears at the audience, spits on them, breaks instruments at the end of the concert, breaks people, pranks the staff, tries to set his bandmates on fire, drinks too much and starts riots at parties, often gets arrested, yet somehow still manages to be plenty's favorite. Bad boy charisma, or something. He seems to enjoy both inflicting pain on others and getting punched in the face himself, which may or may not be the reason for his constant shittalking of pretty much everyone else. It's like he's contractually obliged to let everyone know how much better than them he is. (And who knows, he might be.) As a rockstar, though, that pride often extends to his whole band. (Play bass? Prepare to hear how his bassist would wipe the floor with you. And so on.)

Despite all that, he's actually a very reliable performer; whatever happened last night, he'll be there to play his part perfectly and fucking enjoy it. It's almost a little like a mania at times, or it could be all of that coffee, energy drinks and occasional dose of cocaine he consumes, who knows. He might seem legitimately crazy, but he fucking delivers and he loves the applause more than anything.

Ideal CR:
People to shittalk, people to bully, people to get into ridiculous contests, showing-offs and fistfights with, people to terrorize room service and/or the audience with, people to get in trouble or arrested with, drinking buddies, rivals, fans, whatever.

I don't think he'll really be making any friends, but getting at least into grudgebuddies level with someone would be nice. That aside, I'm very much open to all the negative CR, since I'm sure he'll be raking that left and right.
