Headcanons:
These are not canon facts! Regard the following as true to only this particular version of Squalo; it will differ player to player.
GENERAL
- It is not very clear whether Squalo is his first or last name.For the time being, I will assume that he was introduced (and his subsequent merchandise/cards labeled) in correct Western order (as was supposedly the case for other Western characters, not that most of them were introduced with a surname), which would mean Squalo is his last name and Superbi(a) his first. Headcanonly, he insists being called by his last name because "so would you if your piece of shit parents called you Superbi(a)" (in Italian, it sounds like a girl's name). In light of discovering that Squalo is not a legit surname while Superbia and Superbi are, the latter actually significantly existing in Italy, I'm flipping my original assessment; Squalo is his first name and Superbi is his family name.
- His prosthetic is NOT only the size of a glove! It would never stay on properly that way. Think of something like this, this and this, mechanical part being only the hand and wrist but the shell covering most of his forearm and with multiple straps. He dislikes removing it for any reason (not that he needs to often - it's waterproof etc) and only feels comfortable doing so around Xanxus, because he knows that if he wanted him dead the arm wouldn't make a difference.
- He also has a shark tattoo on his left shoulderblade, and several big scars from his near-death experiences, most notably Jager's pierce and the shark's bites.And quite possibly a XX tramp stamp. Tattoos, scars and mechanical arm are pictured pretty decently here.
- He CAN hold his liquer! In fact, he probably has the second strongest liver in Varia after Xanxus (can't be the second in command without it, obviously).
- The languages he can speak aside from Italian, Japanese and English are headcanoned as (varying levels of fluency, but at least six more on a native-fluent level): Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, German, French, Malay, Mandarin Chinese, Vietnamese, Finnish, Farsi, Arabic, Romanian. He also has knowledge of several sign languages and basics of Latin.
- While sword is his weapon of choice, he is also pretty adept at using knives (for dinner parties that don't allow openly carried weapons, at least) as well as the classical tools like strangulation wire. He can also kill a person with anything pointy from pencils to acupuncture needles. However, he barely ever exercises with ranged firearms, so his aim is relatively poor.
- He brushes his teeth at least two times a day if he has the chance, and spends an obnoxious amount of time checking himself out in the mirror in the morning. Actually he probably does that whenever he comes across a reflective surface, but it doesn't last as long.
- He is mostly tonedeaf, so his attempts at singing are more like off-key yelling with music in the background. It's pretty awful yeah.
- He snores terribly, and it happens often if not always. To quote; "mouth gaping wide open, spewing a noise that Xanxus was sure had been carefully cultivated through years of trial and error to be torturous". He's unaware of it (until someone tells him). The Varia has used recordings of his snoring (and shower singing) as a form of torture, with 93% success rate of breaking a target within a day.
- As result of cutting off his dominant hand and not bothering to develop impressive penmanship as he doesn't really need it, his handwriting is actually pretty awful. It's skew and pointy, and a bit messy to boot - gets the job done, but you don't want him writing calligraphy. A possible example can also be found here (especially the second half of it).
HISTORY
- He is a bastard child of either a perfectly average Italian mafioso OR TYR HIMSELF and a local prostitute (of mixed Sicilian, Russian and Spanish heritage). He was left on his father's doorstep before he was one year old because his mother couldn't stand his way too loud for a normal baby screaming.
- He learned of his origins at (a boarding) school and for a while a sure way to rile him up was to call him "son of a whore". Later he stopped caring because fuck that shit, he's creating his own legacy. It's also partly why he's so quick to toss away bloodlines and still devotedly follow Xanxus despite him supposedly not having Vongola blood (but obviously we believe otherwise, nice try anyway Giotto).
- He was born in Palermo, Sicily, though he moved up north for mafia school while still rather young (12-13). Still, the southern accent tends to show when he's tired or frustrated - it includes his signature "VOI" outburst (other regions prefer using "Lei" for the plural of you). Additionally under the same conditions he will begin to show Italian accent when speaking other languages.
- He might have killed his father as part of his sword technique collecting travels if he was a swordsman (again Tyr would fit here perfectly), that or they simply cut all contact at some point, which is probably more likely. Or maybe a death by mostly natural causes (aka mafia work). He doesn't know his mother, and she's likely dead as well, as Superbi Sr's attempt at covering his ass.
- Since KHR! is big on REINCARNATION!! and Xanxus is pretty much implied to be the second coming of Ricardo (Vongola II), Squalo is most probably likewise the second coming of his Rain guardian and right hand man. My rendition's name was Cesare. Like all Rains, he most likely fought with swords (possibly the shorter gladiator's sword kind, since let's keep it varied).
RELATIONSHIPS
- Squalo likes his old nanny/governess who mostly raised him as a kid well enough, and treats her to something nice whenever they run into each other, considering he's rich now and everything. She also phones him on Christmas, Easter and his birthday.
- Squalo regularly visited Xanxus while he was encased in ice and talked to him, despite not knowing if he could actually hear him or not, and brought flowers on his birthdays. One time he returned after a longer absence than usual and found the roses completely dried, which really drove the point in about the passage of timewithout Xanxus and the hopelessness of the situation, and he had a minor breakdown right there at the bossicle's feet.
FAVORITES
- He favors colourless drinks - vodka (Absolut, Finlandia, Stolichnaya, Grey Goose, Smirnoff & Crystal Head), grappa, martini (bianco), gin, white sambuca and blanco/plata tequila, but he does drink others on occasion.
- He likes most of fish dishes, especially Italian, cooked, smoked, raw, or otherwise. That includes but is not limited to tuna carpaccio, cioppino, salmon and spinach fettuccine, and baccala campagnolo.
- He most likely likes football, fast cars and motorcycles because lol Italy. His favorite motorboke brands are Ducati (example), Aprilia (example), and Kawasaki (example).
- For shampoos, soap,perfumes cologne and so on, he favors whatever Xanxus says smells nice idk manly scents. Fruits and flowers are a huge no-no, meanwhile ocean-y or mint-y scents are acceptable.
- Favorite restaurant: Grotta Palazzese hands down, though he will accept La Pergola or most insanely expensive and tasteful places with good food, especially if there's seafood selection.
- Music: he doesn't really give a shit and will generally be fine with listening to whatever's popular and has a quick beat, but I totally expect him to play stuff like "Gasolina" or Lady Gaga in the car, and Varia as a whole is probably unironically also into trashy gangsta rap (as much as I wanted to say it's heavy metal instead, you know it's true in your heart of hearts, though it could be both), you're welcome.
