Like, handwritten by monks and stuff?
[ he is having a hard time comprehending "special" and "books" in a single sentence ]
no subject
Sort of. Like, first edition to ever come into existence special. Thought to be lost to the ages kind of special.
no subject
[ yes good let's talk about jocks and books rather than feelings ]
no subject
Does it-- of course it matters! Editions, especially in early times, always bring the risk of massive creative freedom in terms of editing, censoring or abridging. History is never neutral.
no subject
Winners write history, right?
no subject
Which is why original copies can be groundbreaking and highly contested material. Books have been considered dangerous or forbidden throughout the centuries.
no subject
[ He vaguely knows about it, but he's not particularly invested, and it's probably audible. ]
You've got a favorite forbidden book?
[ Because that should be interesting. What dark secrets could a travelling librarian possibly hide? ]
no subject
If we're talking favorites, that would be Shakespeare's King Lear. It was banned from stage for a long time because the madness in the story rang too close to the insanity of King George III.
... But you were probably thinking more dark and twisted, weren't you?
no subject
[ there is nothing dark and twisted about protecting another human which is totally what he does!! ]
Can't deny I thought you'd come up with saucier banned content than politics, though.
no subject
[He has a lot of fake memories to go with that hunch okay.]
Saucier? What, you mean like... [Indistinct hand gesture, don't make him say it.]
no subject
Y'know, something interesting. Unusual. Fucked up, if you'd like. Something that makes you go "did someone really write this?"
no subject
Or stomach.
no subject
[ He sounds like he thinks it's light reading. ]

There was a pretty bad one about the power to take flight. Which they actually stole from the Norse, but that's a different story.
They'd restrain the victim and hack at his ribs until-- are you seriously going to make me recap that? Like, can we just stop here and you take my word for it that it's really bad?
no subject
[ He doesn't seem troubled but he's not going to push it, because he honestly doesn't care that much. ]

[ But not good enough, clearly, even if the imagery is amusing. ]
So. Sword fight. I'm in the Radiation Zone right now. Where're you?
no subject
[Why is he not surprised?]
You're asking for a rematch? ... Or... wait, is it a rematch if the original match didn't actually happen?
no subject
[ look how cute he is ]

Industrial zone. Though I got my hands a bit full at the moment. You know. Traumatic memories to sort through, broken friendships to mend, that sort of thing.

[ Mr Sensitive strikes again. Then again... he's not entirely wrong in that a good exercise can usually help with feeling down. ]
no subject
[He pulls a face at the rest. He doesn't say that wielding the crowbar just feels bad after having beaten Peter with it so badly. That will take him some time to get over.]
I'm sure we'll get to actually fight eventually.
no subject
[ Judging from the distress in his voice, Squalo would love a hot bath as well, that is, more than anyone would in these circumstances. ]
Fine, fine, Princess. Hit me up when you're more in the mood.
no subject
[Well, great. Now that he said it, that image of a hot tub will probably stick with him for the rest of the day. Damn.]
Right, I'll, yeah. I'll do that. [Awkward pause.] Uh, take care. Try not to die.
no subject
[ Crisis averted, even if the best wishes are totally awkward and uncalled for. Squalo had never figured it out when people he'd known for years expressed their preference for his prolonged life, and he certainly wasn't going to take it to heart from a stranger, but -- this place had no good deaths. He had a king to return to, after all. ]
I'll work on it.
[ "You too" haha just kidding. ]
