Varia in Little Hades

A relatively new local “business”, the Varia offers a multitude of services for those willing to part with enough cash.
- information extortion and trafficking,
- acquiring of various demon organs and body parts,
- finding people and beating them up or delivering your revenge (torture or making someone sleep with the fire fishes available),
- intermediating between you and smugglers,
- hiring “freelancer” criminals for you,
- offering “protection” for your club or business (this one they might contact you themselves about),
- getting that annoying hellcop off your trail,
- other less than legal affairs.
They’re also offering smuggling services themselves, focusing on ice cream, sweets and top shelf booze. Because a secret ice cream parlor in a frozen over Hell is what serious mafiosos do. They will, however, consider other requests as well, as long as you pay for it.
Now here's the fun part! By outsourcing Varia, you can get smuggled goods at discounted OOC/hellbuck prices. This is especially relevant to those who do not possess Reaping Gloves of their own. Of course, that means that your character must be willing to pay the Varia IC money/dracos for it, but the exact amounts can be handwaved. Request your goods here! *
* Note that once your discount has been granted, you still need to submit an official request to the Hellmods. We don't distribute the rewards themselves, only discounts! Once your inquiry here is confirmed, you can link it in your comment to the mod post, and pay the reduced price.
Most customers will be getting the regular price, however returning customers OR customers who possess the Reaping Gloves themselves may request extra discount. Keep in mind that the latter's availability may depend on our current funds.

"Lackey" is an entry level position available to people who aren't trustworthy or otherwise ~Varia Quality~ (which includes being awesome, knowing 7 languages and a lot of ways to kill). A handy job application can be found here.
Varia are rather eccentric employers, although they pay well and are generaly very accepting of any and all quirks despite being arrogant hobags with little patience for imperfection or disloyalty. Granted, most of the time lackeys won't be tasked with crucial jobs, but they'll still be expected to take responsibility for flubbing it.
While not actively hiring, they will definitely try to seek out promising agents and/or murderers and try to sway them into alliances. Also, we can never have too many ice cream dealers. Seriously.
A L L I A N C E S
So you don't want to work for the mob, but you'd like your own business or services to be on friendly terms with the Varia. Maybe even with mutual benefits! If that's the case, feel free to fill out an alliance request instead. Be ready for parley on the terms.

But wait - ]
Seven...more? They even have something resembling places of learning in this dump?

Yeah. Varia law. You got to speak at least 8 languages to be a full member. Cause we were international and you got to be able to speak to the fuckers in whatever country you're killing scum in.
Fuck if I know. I'm sure they have a school or some shit. Or just ask around. Bet there's all sorts of languages to learn down here. [ Someone might be planning on adding to their 13. ]

I see. Well, we didn't have countries where I came from. We had kingdoms, but we had advanced far enough that we all spoke one language. Well -if you count growls, chirps and hisses, maybe the Faunus had their own language. [Not a back handed comment about your world, don't worry. Or a racist comment at the Faunus. They say animals have their own language, though.] Sorry for my ignorance. Still learning.
Though out of curiosity and eagerness to learn, if we all speak Hellese then why is it so vital to know the other languages?
(frozen comment) gently slips in
It's good for saying and writing things you don't want everyone to read. You may also think of it as a test of your ability to learn. Are you intelectually superior to a caveman, or are you not?
(frozen comment) Re: gently slips in
So is code. I simply wanted your perspective. You guys have been here longer. I have full faith that you know what you're doing.[He countered this politely - or at least politely enough for the man not to get the subtext 'and code that only you know is still safer than a language that someone else might still be able to read, understand or bring to someone else who can read it - who's the cave troll?' It's fine if they think he's an idiot. It's preferable to be underestimated than thought a threat or competition. Too early for that. Way too early for that. So he bites down on his pride.
Besides he still needs something from them.]
But you're right, I must have missed the fine print at 'law'.[He gives an elaborate shrug.] And I'm in your house, so it's your rules. Fine. Learning new languages and broadening my horizons it is.

That's right. [ There's also sign languages. But most codes are also known by more than one person, especially with geekdom growing more popular nowadays. Combining it with another language might give you more edge, especially if the intercepter doesn't know what to expect. ]
The rules were there before us. [ He shrugs; this is an old organization and they weren't going to start changing the rules just because it happened to be moved to Hell. ] Either way, performing well is the most important.

But his and Neo's codes...never mind. He really doesn't want to think about Neo. He might have to actually admit that somewhere in the corner of his dark heart is someone that he misses. Or admit that there are still skills that he needs to master which is almost as bad.]
Traditional....very well. [This is going to be a busy month. He's suddenly business-like. Say whatever else you want about him, but he takes a lot of pride in what he does.] I always strive to.

Good. Then it won't be a problem.
[ The conversation's done as far as Squalo's concerned; he'll let the new guy's actions speak for themselves. ]

Cause that's just how it is. It's Varia Law. Shows you're smart enough to be able to learn that many and good enough to blend in no matter where you go. It's about being Quality
